7 reasons why you MUST watch Green Book at Wembley Park
Our Summer on Screen season is in full swing at Wembley Park and we have yet another scorcher coming your way – Oscar Winner, Green Book.
The HEAVILY acclaimed 2018 biographical blockbuster about the friendship between American classical and jazz pianist, Don Shirley, and Italian American bouncer, Frank ‘Tony Lip’ Vallelonga, will be screened for FREE at Wembley Park on Thursday 27th June. And you just simply have to come. Why you might ask? Well we can give you seven reasons why…
1. It’s an Oscar winner.
Let me correct that. It’s a three time Oscar winner, five time nominee. And not just any Oscar, the Oscar for Best Picture. That means this movie is up there with the likes of Titanic, Slumdog Millionaire, Forrest Gump, Rocky…the list is endless. And if you’re thinking ‘oh it just three measly Oscars’, Green Book has won 41 awards in total AND has been nominated for over 100 awards. You know this film is worth the watch.
2. It’s inspired by a true story.
Whilst your heart is being wrenched by this truly warming story, remember that this is all real. The script was written from interviews both Shirley and Vallelonga gave, as well as letters written by Vallelonga to his wife. Nothing makes a better story than a real life one! notin
3. Vallelonga’s son wrote the script.
Yep, that’s right. The reason there is so much detail and emotion in this film is because Vallenlonga’s Song, Nick Vallelonga, co-write the script! The script was so powerful it even won Best Original Screenplay at the Oscars. Sign us up!
4. Shirley himself approved the script.
And what might have helped it win Best Original Screenplay? Well Shirley himself approved the script of course! Although he sadly passed away before getting to see the actual film, Nick Vallenlonga showed Shirley the script for his seal of approval. Anything given the tick from that level of creative genius is going to be a winner.
5. The ratings are impressive.
8.2 on IMBD. 78% on Rotten Tomatoes – 91% in this audience score. 4 Stars in TimeOut. Green Book is among masterpieces.
6. We’ve made this more than just a screening.
What can’t you get in a dark cinema? Pre-show entertainment from a real and rocking brass band of course! The King Brasstards will be kicking off the evening from 7PM with some swinging songs. Known for far more than just their wicked cheeky name, the band will liven up your evening and transport you to Copacabana Nightclub with old Tony Lip himself. Dancing encouraged.
7. It will cost you NADA.
I know it’s almost too good to be true. But you better believe it. This screening of the Oscar winning, star studded, 41-time winner, 102-time nominee, heart-warming, true story BLOCKBUSTER is completely FREE. Free to attend. Free to watch. Free to enjoy. What more do we need to say?
