Other Cinemas FREE screenings are back as part of Brent 2020’s activities
Other Cinemas return to Wembley Park once again for their next round FREE independent film screenings, as part of Brent’s Borough of Culture activities.
With a powerful lineup of thought provoking documentaries and moving short films, Other Cinemas are bringing even more independent filmmakers to the forefront.
Hosted in Wembley Park’s community hub, The Yellow, the screenings are completely free and vary from scripted but personal movies to political features.
Saturday 29th February
7PM to 9:30PM
Brent based filmmaker, Mike McKenzie, will be at The Yellow next with a free screening and Q&A of his short film, Be-Longing.
Using actors to provide insight into the real world of foster care, Be-Longing tells the story of a young nine-year-old boy who has recently been placed in foster care. Removed from chaotic and violent birth parents, the young boy is torn between accepting and apprenticing the trust and kindness from his foster family and remaining ‘loyal’ to his biological parents, who he loves dearly.
Beyond the Photo with director Q&A
Saturday 14th March
7PM to 10PM
Another Brent based filmmaker, Cathy Hassan, will be showing her documentary, Beyond the Photo, followed by a Q&A session.
The feature-length documentary, Beyond the Photo, records the realities of Black British lives in the 1970’s. The powerful individual stories and personal experiences are linked by themes of discriminatory police culture, winter of discontent, inhumane housing and the rising voices of disgruntled young black people, determined to break the cycle of poverty and systemic oppression.
