Wembley Park’s Winterfest is here!
Wembley Park will be lit up this Christmas as the first edition of Winterfest comes to town. From dazzling illuminations and interactive artworks to world-class theatre, shops and restaurants, there are so many fun things to do in Wembley that you’re guaranteed a festive day out to remember. Whether you’re after a dose of culture, some retail therapy or a slap-up meal, we’ve got you covered – all beneath the gaze of London’s tallest Christmas tree.
A Winter’s Playground
Winterfest 2019 is turning Wembley Park into a festival of light with 10 fabulous installations. These unique illuminations form a festive backdrop to the area’s wide range of attractions, and offer a truly immersive experience. Highlights include the multi-sensory Sonic Runway’s rippling corridor of sound and lights, or the joy of spontaneous music-making created by Illumaphonium: Halos. And don’t miss artist Jason Bruges’ wall of shadows, which celebrates the history of movement along the Royal Route.
Winterfest and more
There is much more to Winterfest than simply a festival of art. Look beyond the light trail and you’ll find an exciting programme that includes directors’ film nights at Cineworld; workshops and talks at The Yellow; theatre at The Troubadour; plus live performances and community choirs in our streets and squares.
Don’t miss Getty Images Gallery’s free exhibition Heroes, featuring more than 100 photographs from the archives celebrating the rich history of SSE Arena. Highlight of the live action at the SSE Arena itself is the hit show Elf: The Musical. The heart-warming tale arrives in Wembley Park straight from Broadway and is brought to life across three stages, with giant screens providing stunning CGI backdrops and live-action close-ups.
And for some festive fun with a difference, why not enrol in a workshop at Bread Ahead and learn how to produce the perfect mince pies from the best bakers in the business?
Boxpark: come in from the cold
Boxpark Wembley offers an eclectic selection of street food with a roof over your head, so you can enjoy a warm welcome and the buzz of an outdoor market without the winter chill. Whether you fancy a quick bao bun, a stacked burger from Cut & Grind or even a gourmet ice cream from Udderlicious, there’s a mouth-watering choice available from more than 20 vendors featuring cuisines from across the globe.
But there’s much more to Boxpark than just fantastic food. Three on-site bars serve craft beers and hand-crafted cocktails, and there’s a packed programme of live entertainment and sport screenings throughout the festive season.
Or head upstairs to the entertainment zone for laser tag with a difference in the mind-altering realm of Zero Latency, the world’s first free-roam virtual reality game, or learn to hurl an axe with a mighty roar courtesy of Bad Axe, the Canadian axe-throwing experts.
Eating out: spoilt for choice
The weather outside might be frightful, but the restaurants of Wembley Park are serving up a delightful selection of warming winter treats from more than 50 eateries. London Designer Outlet is brimming with high-street favourites, such as Nando’s, Wagamama, Zizzi and Pizza Express – and look out for Prezzo’s Christmas menu with a Latin twist.
There are some mouth-watering menus from Wembley Park’s independent restaurants too including the new Pasta Remoli: Chef Simone Remoli’s roasted potato and pumpkin ravioli is unmissable. And of course don’t miss the street food options from around the world at Boxpark, from charcoal-black pizza bases at Zia Lucia to Michelin starred Chef Rohit Ghai’s delectable stuffed naans at Koolcha.
Retail therapy: shop and Dropit!
A truly world-class shopping destination, Wembley Park is the ideal place to purchase the perfect present for even your fussiest friends and relatives. Be it high-street favourites or exclusive brands, London Designer Outlet houses a fantastic array of shops under one roof, from fashion to fragrance, homeware to sports gear. Meanwhile, at Wembley Park Market you can rediscover the joy of stumbling across a truly unique gift for someone special among the crafters, merchants, makers and doers that make up this creative community. And this is a community with a conscience, so your all your spending will be ethical, too.
