What is a Ceilidh?
Ceilidh or célidhe (pronounced ‘kay-lee’) is a Gaelic word for a special music event where you’ll get a taste of Scottish, Irish and English folk music and dance. Ceilidh bands feature a minimum of two players (fiddle and accordion) plus a caller, but most have more players, adding in guitar, drums, guitar, keyboards and flute or traditional whistles. With a five member band this St Patrick’s Day, expect high energy to get up and dance, with simple steps and formations that will stretch down the room.
Channel your inner Michael Flatley and get your jig on. The Shipters will be hosting a cutting-edge ceilidh on the Main Stage. Get up and dance along to modern and classic Irish tunes with the help of an expert Caller.
Wembley Park will be hosting its first ceilidh in Boxpark Wembley with the help of our Caller, you’ll be hitting all the moves to Strip the Willow Square, Burley Reel, and Four Around Four in no time.
Ireland’s best comedians will take on the Beatbox Stage from 7pm with stand up acts from Michael Legge (“Do the Right Thing”), and Jarlath Regan (“An Irish Man Abroad”).
Irish dance will have you feeling the spirit of Ireland in no time as they take over the main stage with ultra fast moves and modern step dance routines.
